We’re sharing our best wedding decor hacks today with some fabulous inspiration for your pressing decor dilemmas!

1. UGLY CHAIRS

It’s important that your ceremony and reception looks beautiful and inviting; but, unfortunately, many venues offer seating options that are neither. If you’re faced with not-so-pretty chairs, we recommend renting ones that compliments your wedding. Rental chairs come in a variety of colors and styles, including classic chiavari chairs, rustic wood benches, and modern ghost chairs. For those looking to create a unique seating area, we love to incorporate specialty lounge furniture and beautiful vintage pieces. If budget is a concern, make it count by selecting a couple of pieces for just the sweetheart table. A few properly placed items can make a huge visual impact and look great in photos!

2. UGLY BALLROOM WALLS

Whether it be wallpaper, paint color or sconces, ugly ballroom walls are one of the most frequent design challenges that we face. To hide these ugly walls and unattractive venue features, we like to get creative and customize the space. Draping walls with fabric creates stunning settings that perfectly match any wedding theme. Uplights and gobos also do a fantastic job masking wall color and altering texture. For brides on a budget, don’t try to drape an entire room. Instead, focus draping around focal points like the cake, head table, or where you will exchange your vows.

3. LIGHTING INDOORS AND OUT

Perfecting wedding lighting is one of our biggest, most common design challenges. It always seems that the lighting is either too low, too yellow or too florescent. Some of our favorite lighting solutions are market lights, twinkle lights, and chandeliers. Chandeliers are a perfect way to add not only light, but ambiance, elegance and glamour to weddings. We’ve hung chandeliers where couples will exchange vows, over sweetheart tables, and at the center of dance floors. For a more modern look, market lights work beautifully at outdoor weddings as well as indoor venues. String them above guest tables or over the dance floor. An outdoor lighting trick we recommend is to drape small twinkle lights over trees and bushes. It’s a subtle, but beautiful backdrop for your big day. Bring those natural elements indoors by wrapping the twinkle lights around small trees and branches.

4. CHOOSING A VENUE TIPS

Selecting a venue can be overwhelming for any couple. We recommend that our clients begin by narrowing down their search by setting. Are you interested in getting married at an urban loft, in a rustic barn, outside in a garden or on a relaxing beach? That single step will help eliminate a great deal of venue options and can guide your entire wedding vision.

When visiting potential locations, we always tell our clients to look past fixable details like wall color, venue seating and other minor items. The right rental furniture and creative design tricks can transform a nice venue into the wedding of your dreams. Keep in mind, however, features that are not fixable, like size and capacity. You want intimate, but not cramped. Spacious, but not empty. Guests should be able to move comfortably when the chairs, tables, dance floor, and DJ are all in place.

Our final key piece of advice to couples searching for their dream wedding venue: Don’t let the small things get you down. Ugly walls, unattractive chairs, and poor lighting are all design elements couples can overcome. If there is something about the venue you don’t like, get creative. Whether you’re draping an entire ballroom, adding glamour with a single chandelier, or picking out vintage furniture, there are a number of ways to create a wedding style that you and your guests will love.
