Fresh Start: Karina’s Resolutions

Blog1

We all know that January is a month for establishing goals, new beginnings, and good habits. We also know it’s sometimes challenging to stick to the own expectations we create for our self. No matter how charmed (or challenging) life can be, New Year’s always gives me the feeling of a fresh start. I want to think of this month as a way to set the tone for the rest of the year. I want to set both big and small goals that motivate me to keep growing. Some I could obtain tomorrow, others in six months. Either way, I don’t want this to be just a phase. Between all the blessings and the lessons of 2013, I learned that God has a better plan for me than I ever had for myself. As I jump into 2014, I want to share my resolutions and aspirations with you (hopefully you find some inspiration in them too!).

I’m going to work harder at:

Making time for more exercise (preferably outdoors).

A food I want to eat more of:

Veggies! No more eating off the kid’s menu.

A bad habit I’m going to break:

Leaving myself too little time to get ready!

I’d like to spend more time:

Golfing & Reading.

I want to wear more:

Stripes & Sequins.  A girl can never have enough!

I could sit here all day and pin point every little part of my life that needs improvement, but that’s just the nit-picker in me (I will spare you the time). Mostly for 2014, I want to create adventure and remember joy! I want to choose optimism. Whether I am traveling the world, jumping out of planes, swimming with the sharks, or in my everyday routine- there is always an adventure if I just change my perspective! Slow down and notice the little things, go unplugged for an hour a day, take chances, be spur of the moment, step outside of your comfort zone, compliment the random person walking down the street, dance the dance, make a new friend, and don’t be afraid to look ridiculous. Life’s too short to worry about what other people think and honestly they’re probably thinking they’d like to join you!

Fresh Start: Danielle’s Resolutions

We are in the first week of 2014 and this month is all about a fresh start!

We are excited to share a little piece of each of our hearts with you as we reflect on the year that was and share our hopes for the year to come.

This year was a big year for me as I experienced what can best be described as the growing pains of my 20s. The highlights included completing my first Half-Marathon, more than a few Justin Timberlake concerts, trips to Napa, New York, and Hawaii, coordinating some of the most beautiful weddings, and a surprise birthday party to celebrate my 25th! This year was adventurous and silly, challenging and transforming, and there were plenty of giggles and tears shed along the way, but as I walk away from 2013 I am a little closer to the woman that I want to be, the woman that I was created to be, and for that I am grateful.

There is something very therapeutic about saying goodbye to a whole year by 11:59pm on December 31st, and saying hello to a brand new year at midnight. It’s exciting to think about the possibilities that the next 365 days hold and to know that today possesses more hope than you can imagine. While I’m not usually one for making resolutions, this year I have decided to make just a few…

1. To learn the word no. I learned in 2013 that I am quite a people pleaser. I want to be liked. I want to be able to do everything that I feel everyone expects of me so that they are happy with me. So that they like me. But when I say yes to everything I am left with literally nothing for myself. No time, no energy, no community. So this year I want to be intentional with my yes and humbled by my no. What a sweet and freeing realization this has been!

2. To choose joy. I have chosen too many times to hold onto the hurts in my life and this year I refuse to let those hold me back from experiencing joy. When the worries or hurts got the best of me, I forgot that I could choose joy. But not anymore…

Resolutions don’t need to be these grand all-or-nothing statements that we keep for a week and then dismiss. They can be small promises that, over the course of the next year, make you better than the person you were yesterday.

Giving Spree: Time Worth Spending

“We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.”

giving-love

We would like to remind you in the importance of LOVE this holiday season. Yesterday we shared some fabulous organizations to donate finically to & today we are sharing ways to donate what is most important: your time. We have an idea for everybody!

Do you like Christmas Music?

Grab some friends and Go Caroling at Convalescent Homes in your area to bring some much needed joy to the elderly.

Do you want to help provide food to the hungry?

Volunteer at a Soup Kitchen this season and see all the people your community is helping. Talk to the people who need you and help feed those who are hungry.

Do you enjoy teaching others valuable skills?

Volunteer as an Adult Literacy Tutor at your nearest public library. You can offer your abilities and expand the opportunities in the lives of many.

Do you enjoy spending time with kids?

Volunteer at an After School Program for children as a tutor or simply spend some fun and enjoyable time with them.

Do you have a heart for the wounded?

Volunteer at a Veteran’s Hospital, by simply spending some time reading to the recuperating or chatting with a veteran you can show them that we have not forgotten them.

We would like to wish all of your lovelies a happy and gracious holiday season!
